Full Description

Cross the Holy Door and enjoy a unique experience in the Basilica of Saint Mary Major, where the tomb of Pope Francis is located.

Accompanied by qualified staff, you will access areas normally closed to the public: the Loggia of Blessings, from which popes addressed the faithful; the Hall of the Popes, adorned with frescoes narrating Church history; and Bernini’s Staircase, a rare masterpiece of Baroque elegance....

With the multilingual audio guide (Italian, English, Spanish, German, and French), you can explore the basilica at your own pace, admiring the 5th-century early Christian mosaics, the gilded ceiling, the Baroque domes, and the tomb of Pope Francis.
Pause before the Sacred Cradle, a precious polychrome marble reliquary beneath the Altar of the Confession, and contemplate the Holy Door, which is opened only during Jubilee years.

One of the most evocative moments of the visit is the Pauline Chapel, home to the Salus Populi Romani icon, a beloved symbol of protection for the people of Rome and the Popes.
The itinerary includes access to the Baptistery, where Pope Leo XII donated a font as a baptismal basin.
